History

In 1940, Jack Weston was selected by FDR to be the next American Champion, bearer of the Talisman of LIberty during World War II. He returned the Talisman to Harry Trumen after the war, but became the first American Champion in history to bear the Talisman in two wars when Truman selected his again for the Korean War. In 1953 Jack was accidentally caught in a suspended animation trap set by Dr. Sivana for Captain Marvel, and he remained in suspended animation for 20 years. During this time, the Talisman of Liberty merged with Jack's body, so that now, rather than borrowing the powers of the Talisman, those powers are part of Jack. One of the changes to Jack was extreme longevity - he no longer seems to age. Jack continued to fight for Truth and Justice as the patriotic hero Minute Man, the One Man Army. In the year 1995, Jack decided that he needed to change his civilian identity to protect one the secret of his longevity, and he abandoned his prior life to become John 'Jack' Westfall, a college history professor in Valley Forge, Pa. In 2000, he realized that Minute Man was something of an anachronism, and Minute Man retired. Jack adopted a new identity as 'The Sandman', wearing a costume very similar to the one worn by the Earth-2 Hourman..

Powers

Jack Weston was a superb natural athlete, and when he joined the Army in 1939, he was selected for a secret project dedicated to developing official 'mystery men' for the Armed Forces, and he received special combat training. When he received the Talisman of Liberty, Jack/s natural athletic abilities (strenght, speed, agility, quickness, coordination) were enhanced to levels superior to any normal human, and, in addition, his recuperative abilities were also ehanced, allowing him to recover quickly from injuries that would cripple or kill a normal man.. When his body absorbed the mystical energies of the Talisman of Liberty, Jack's athletic and recuperative abilities were enhanced even more, and his aging process seemed to stop completely. Jack is highly trained in hand-to-hand combat, and he works out regularly and intensively against some of the most skilled combatants in the world. He is also very skilled with virtually any kind of weapon. As either Minute Man or Sandman, Jack does not carry any weapons.
