Timepiece

Heroic Name: Timepiece

Real Name: Rexford Tyler

Nickname: Rex, Boy Genius

Age: 18

Appearance: A very frail boy in a high technology floating chair.

Powers: His chair has various prosthetics that responded to vocal commands including waldos. The chair has antigravity and flight capabilities, as well as a powerful built in computer and communication links to Gernsbeck.. He has natural inventive genius on the order of Blue Beetle

Rexford has the natural chronal ability to move out of synch with linear time and into the future, where he can observe the present without being affected by it, and using this power he can create time loops. He can move himself and some volume of space around him out of normal time and uptime into the future, to a maximum of about a half second. If he moves less than about a nanosecond into the future, he can observe the present - and because he is in the future, he cannot be affected by anything that occurs in the present. He cannot pass through walls or physical barriers. So in essence he is invisible and untouchable, but by dropping back into normal time, he can affect the present, and then immediately wink uptime again.

Rex has recently developed an exoskeleton that allows him to move without his chair. Wearing the exoskeleton, he has enhanced strength and protection from damage, but he is still very clumsy using it.

Weaknesses: Rex's power seems to be either intermittent or to not work at all while he is in Limbo. When Rex is not in his chair or his exoskeleton he is paralzyed and helpless.

History: Rex is the older brother to Randal Tyler, the Legionnaire known as Hour Boy. Rex was always fascinated with physics, and he entered the Legion Academy with the hope of becoming the Legion's leading scientist. He remained at the Academy longer than many because there wasn't a need for his particular power on the team, and he became interested in time travel. When Rex started doing research into prohibited areas of science and physics, notably time travel, one of his Legion Academy classmates, Coquette, a shape shifter, also known as 'Clothes Fall Off Girl' attempted to seduce and subvert him, following orders given by General Urbane. When he wasn't interested, Urbane had him poisoned, which is when his limbs began to atrophy. He was probably the first guy who ever didn't fall for Coquette, and she has hated him ever since.

Terrified at the thought of spending the rest of his life paralyzed, he turned his genius level intelligence to developing prosthetics that might allow him to at least care for himself. Once his floatchair was completed, he turned to cybernetics, and constructed the intelligent computer Gernsbeck.

Rex and Gernsbeck together invented the Boom Tube. Working with Star Lass, Greenfire, and the knowledge of time travel retrieved from Feitheria and the Suppressed Sciences Vault of Amgov, the team has managed to develop the time cubes that allow them to travel back to the 20th centruy.

Rex is a member of the Legion Stealth Squad

Comments: In many ways, Rex is the opposite of his brother. Rex is frail and can't move, Rand is powerful and athletic. Rex's power allows him to move into the future, while Rand's power allows him to move into the past. Rex is shy and reserved and has never had a girlfriend, Rand is brash and loud and has a new 'girlfriend' (really, conquest) several times a month. Rex favors theoretical research; Rand likes to fiddle with things. Rex abhors violence; Rand loves a good fight. Yet the two are very close.
